The 2026 Annual Meeting of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) was held in Cape Town, South Africa. A total of 39 achievements from the School of Biomedical Engineering at ShanghaiTech University were accepted, including 6 Oral presentations, 4 PowerPitch presentations, 2 Flash Presentations, 4 Traditional Posters, and 23 Digital Posters, fully demonstrating the School’s sustained innovation capability and international influence in the field of magnetic resonance.

List of Accepted Abstracts

At the conference venue, faculty and students from the School delivered outstanding performances, and their research achievements received awards from the conference. The works of students Yuyang Ren, Wenjian Liu, Haotian Hong, and Tianhao Jiang from Professor Peng Hu’s research group all ranked in the top 15% of scores and won the Silver Award (Magna Cum Laude Merit Award). Among them, Yuyang Ren’s work on unsupervised phase unwrapping and an automated processing workflow for 4D Flow received two Oral presentations; Wenjian Liu’s work based on self-gated flow MRI enables blood flow quantification at multiple anatomical sites without external physiological monitoring devices; the multi-echo GRE sequence developed by Haotian Hong can effectively remove common dark-band artifacts in magnetic resonance while preserving high contrast; Tianhao Jiang’s research on gradient sequence patterns and human peripheral nerve stimulation can help optimize MRI design on hardware systems, making MRI scans safer and more comfortable.

In addition to paper presentations, faculty members from the School also actively participated in conference symposia and academic exchanges. Professor Zhihua Ren was invited to give a talk titled “MRI Hardware Consideration in Pediatric MRI” in the symposium “From the Ground Up: Building/Expanding a Pediatric MRI Service.” The talk provided an in-depth discussion of key issues such as hardware system design, imaging safety, coil and system optimization in the construction of pediatric MRI services, offering important reference for the development and clinical translation of pediatric magnetic resonance imaging platforms. Zijian Zhou introduced multiple research works of the School in the field of cardiac MRI at the conference venue, and engaged in extensive exchanges with domestic and international peers on topics including cardiac cine imaging, myocardial parameter quantification, free-breathing imaging, 4D Flow MRI, investigation of interstitial fluid flow, and AI-assisted cardiovascular image reconstruction and analysis.

Looking ahead, the School of Biomedical Engineering at ShanghaiTech University will continue to address major needs in medical imaging and precision medicine, promote the deep integration of magnetic resonance imaging theory, technology, systems, and clinical applications, and continuously cultivate biomedical engineering talent with international vision and interdisciplinary innovation capabilities.
