Brief CV🫱🏿:
Dr. Bingbing Cheng is an Assistant Professor and Director of Translational Research in Ultrasound THeranostics (TRUTH) Lab in the School of Biomedical Engineering at ShanghaiTech University. Dr. Cheng earned his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from UT Southwestern Medical Center and the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas, USA in 2016. After that, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, focusing on the translational research of therapeutic focused ultrasound. In 2019, he joined the Cumming School of Medicine and Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary as a senior postdoctoral associate. In the meantime, he was also the scientific lead for the drug delivery theme of the MR-guided Focused Ultrasound Program.
Dr. Cheng’s research is concentrated on the development and application of focused ultrasound-involved biomedical imaging and therapeutic techniques. In recent years, his research interest is to develop innovative focused ultrasound techniques for brain applications. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference abstracts, given over 30 international oral presentations and invited talks, hold 2 USA patents (granted) and numerous awards granted from institutional, provincial, national, and international organizations. He also serves as a regular reviewer for 10+ peer-reviewed high-impact journals.

Lab Introduction🥍:
Welcome to the TRUTH Lab! Our research laboratory focuses on developing focused ultrasound techniques for non-invasive, targeted, and personalized brain disease diagnosis and treatment. The research in our lab is highly interdisciplinary with the combination of physics, engineering, biology, chemistry, and medicine. Our lab is led by Dr. Bingbing Cheng, Assistant Professor in the School of Biomedical Engineering at the ShanghaiTech University.
We are looking for graduate students, postdoc, research assistant, technician, and staff scientist to join us. Please contact Dr. Cheng (chengbb@shanghaitech.edu.cn) for more information. We welcome talents with background in the following area: Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Medical Physics, Computer Science, and other related fields.
The mission of the TRUTH lab is to develop innovative focused ultrasound (FUS) techniques for improving the life of patients with brain diseases. Our team is working on the following research projects:
Reversible, targeted, and safe blood-brain barrier opening for image-guided non-invasive drug delivery to the brain
MR-guided High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (MR-HIFU) thermal therapy
FUS neuromodulation
Development of novel ultrasound contrast agents – nanobubbles for therapeutic/imaging purposes
Artificial Intelligence applications in FUS treatment planning and evaluation
